Attackers use malicious npm libraries to steal users’ funds

Users of the popular cryptocurrency wallets Atomic and Exodus have become the target of a new cyberattack. Cybersecurity experts from ReversingLabs identified malicious software packages disguised as legitimate libraries in the npm repository. One such package — pdf-to-office — was found to carry malicious code.The essence of the attack lies in the fact that after installing the fake library, the malicious code quietly embeds itself into the system and searches for local files of installed wallets. It then alters their functionality, distorting the interface and misleading the user. As a result, the victim unknowingly sends their cryptocurrency to addresses controlled by hackers.These types of cyber activities have become part of a new wave of threats related to the compromise of software supply chains. Attackers increasingly target tools used by developers to inject malicious code during the creation or update stages of software. These methods are difficult to detect early, making them especially dangerous for the crypto community.The seriousness of the situation is also confirmed by fresh data from the company Hacken: in the first quarter of 2025, the crypto industry lost around $2 billion due to hacks and exploits. The largest incident occurred at the Bybit exchange in February, where the damage reached $1.4 billion.

The Four.Meme platform, specializing in launching meme coins on the BNB Chain, has once again been targeted by hackers.According to PeckShield, the attackers stole 200 BNB (equivalent to $130,000) and transferred the funds to FixedFloat, a non-custodial exchange.Blockchain security experts from SlowMist were the first to report a potential vulnerability. They discovered that the hacker exploited function 0x7f79f6df to gain an unfair advantage even before the token was officially launched on the platform.The attacker pre-purchased a small amount of tokens and then sent them to an uncreated PancakeSwap Pair address. This allowed them to create a liquidity pool independently, bypassing transfer restrictions (MODE_TRANSFER_RESTRICTED) that were supposed to prevent unauthorized transactions.By setting liquidity at an arbitrary price, the hacker managed to drain the pool, causing significant financial losses for both the project and its users.Four.Meme has confirmed the breach and suspended token launches for investigation. The platform has invited users to submit compensation claims, with payouts expected within a week.

The Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) has approved the world’s first exchange-traded fund (ETF) that directly holds XRP, the native cryptocurrency of Ripple, from Hashdex. This approval is recorded in the CVM database and was first reported on the Portal do Bitcoin platform.The recently approved ETF, called the “Hashdex NASDAQ XRP Index Fund,” is expected to be launched on Brazil’s main stock exchange — B3.
