The Missouri Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against cryptocurrency ATM operator CoinFlip, accusing the company of fraud and misleading consumers. According to the prosecutor's office, CoinFlip allegedly failed to inform users of the risks associated with transactions through their devices, and also failed to provide sufficient protection against fraudulent schemes.
The lawsuit notes that CoinFlip, which operates more than 4,000 cryptocurrency ATMs across the U.S., violated Missouri's consumer protection laws. In particular, the company is accused of not providing customers with clear information about fees, exchange rates and possible risks of losing funds. The Attorney General emphasizes that such actions could have resulted in significant financial losses for state residents.
"We will not tolerate companies that take advantage of citizens' trust and put them at financial risk," the attorney general said. Missouri authorities are pushing for fines and compensation for victims, as well as increased regulation of cryptocurrency services in the region.
CoinFlip, according to industry analysts, serves more than 1 million users nationwide, and the company's total transaction volume has exceeded $1.5 billion over the past year. Against the backdrop of tighter regulation of cryptocurrency transactions in the U.S., this lawsuit could set a precedent for similar proceedings in other states.
