Crypto Copilot malicious extension detected: hidden commissions threaten crypto traders' security
Leading cybersecurity experts at Socket have identified a dangerous browser extension called Crypto Copilot that stealthily charges hidden fees to users for cryptocurrency transactions. According to the researchers, the extension masquerades as a tool to facilitate trading in digital assets, but in reality it introduces additional fees that users are not properly notified about.Analysis of the extension's code revealed that Crypto Copilot automatically adds a fee of up to 1.5% to each transaction, which is transferred to anonymous wallets controlled by the attackers. The number of downloads of the extension has surpassed 10,000 in recent weeks, increasing the potential damage to users.Socket emphasizes that such schemes are becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect without in-depth technical analysis. Therefore, users are advised to install only verified extensions, carefully study permissions and regularly check their cryptocurrency accounts for unauthorized debits.Experts advise to remove Crypto Copilot immediately and audit all installed extensions to protect funds. The growing number of such threats requires special digital vigilance from all participants in the crypto community.
